Recently, one of my incredible clients – a senior in a heavily male-dominated industry – shared something with me that perfectly captures the transformation that happens when you start living and dressing in alignment with who you are.
Right before heading off on holiday, she discovered (in the most roundabout way possible – not via official channels, mind you) that someone had been told they’d be taking over her role. A move that she hadn’t been informed of. 😳
She told me that once upon a time, she would’ve accepted it without question. She would’ve moved quietly into a different role, even if it didn’t suit her.
But this time?
This time, she said no.
She spoke to her manager. Not with panic or drama, but with clarity. She told him that this change wasn’t the right move for her or her team. And to her surprise, he agreed. He asked her what she would suggest instead. She also reached out to other senior leaders, explaining why the decision didn’t make sense and what the consequences might be.
And here’s the brilliant bit:
✨ The decision was reversed.
✨ She kept her role.
✨ The other person was moved elsewhere.
Not only did she protect her position, she stayed true to herself, and for the first time, truly put herself first.
“Previously I’d have been worried about doing them a disservice & then impacting myself negatively in the longer term. I still do care to a degree about them but have put myself first for once :)” – Sarah
This is more than a career win – It’s an identity shift.

Why Style Strategy Matters
Before working together, Sarah didn’t feel like her image was communicating her leadership potential nor was it giving her the confidence to speak up when it mattered. Now? This was just once of the many moments I received from her on how her Style Strategy is impacting her everyday visibility, credibility and authority…
When I talk about style being strategic, this is exactly what I mean.
It’s not about the clothes alone—it’s about what those choices represent:
- How you feel in your skin.
- How confidently you advocate for yourself.
- How aligned your outer presence is with your inner values.
- How visible—and valued—you feel in the spaces you occupy.
When you understand your identity and are deeply connected to your personal style, it creates ripple effects across your life. You become bolder, clearer, more grounded. You begin to say NO to things that don’t align and YES to what truly does.
Because when your appearance reflects your authenticity, you stop shape-shifting to please others. You stop over-functioning. You stop absorbing what doesn’t belong to you.
Instead, you move strategically.
You present with intention and clarity.
Style Isn’t Just About What You Wear—It’s About What You Stand For
This client’s experience is a perfect illustration of what can happen when you choose alignment over accommodation. It’s a reminder that advocating for yourself doesn’t make you difficult – it makes you clear.
And in case you needed to hear it today:
🖤 You don’t need to shrink to be seen as collaborative.
🖤 You don’t need to bend to be seen as valuable.
🖤 You don’t need to accept what doesn’t fit – whether it’s a job title, a dress code, or a narrative someone else has written for you.
Strategic style is about showing up for your life as you truly are. And when you do that? Everything changes.
Are you ready to step into alignment and show up with intention?
This is the work I do. Whether you’re in the middle of a career pivot, preparing for a new leadership role, or simply ready to stop feeling like a ‘neutral version’ of yourself – let’s talk.
Your next level begins with clarity.
